Yes to all of this. And for those who think voting for the "green" party is a good way to protest, please know that the very unqualified presidential candidate Jill Stein isn't green at all as per this article in The Nation: https://www.thenation.com/article/archive/jill-stein-green-party-hypocrite/
We are in a rarefied universe in Boston. but, these decisions would be less painful if the "media for entertainment" quotient leaned back toward solid information
You're preaching to the converted, Ellen :-) The trouble is, I think even legacy news organizations like the NYT have already "jumped the shark" into algorithmically driven overload. There's still plenty of excellent journalism in the mix, but it's become very hard to pull it from the rest of the constant spew.
"I’ve been avoiding frenzied headlines about election anxiety" Martha, how can we make you feel better? How's this. No matter who gets elected, it won't make a difference. Or probably not.
Oh, Richard. I appreciate your question and the care it offers. I am anxious about the upcoming election, but I'm also a realist. I can see my way beyond it, too. I guess the main thing I've been trying to balance is how not to dump more despair into the media miasma vs. the need to witness what's happening and to report honestly about my feelings. Such feelings aren't facts, but they are a form of information. Writing about them (sometimes) can also offer entry points for others to share their own response, which may well be different from mine. And that's another kind of information I take on board :-)
